Dark Knight Rises Set Photos: More pics from TDKR location shooting in NYC, LA and Pittsburgh

Everyone who is anyone knows Gotham City is New York, but creating the imagery for The Batman’s City is too big a job for one city to handle.  Christopher Nolan primarily used Chicago for the first two films, but for The Dark Knight Rises has used parts of London, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and of course Manhattan.

Below find assorted pictures from the multi-city location shooting to supplement those archived elsewhere throughout this blog.

The Dark Knight Rises set video: Truck Crash

Los Angeles is very different from Pittsburgh.  In Pittsburgh, snow isn’t unusual, a hollywood movie is.  In LA, they’re as excited about the snow as they are about previewing a stunt from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises

A shot from the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. A truck crashed from an upper level road to a lower level road. This shot took several days of onsite setup to create. The crew turned Los Angeles in September to Gotham in winter. Was awesome to see snow in LA.

Warner Bros. / Nolan bid farewell to Pittsburgh in a unique way

Christopher Nolan and the film crew of The Dark Knight Rises bid a classy farewell to Pittsburgh taking out a full page ad in the city newspaper, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.   We don’t know what it cost, and  it may not seem much of an expense in a $250 million movie budget that’s already totaled an IMAX camera, but it’s the sort of expenditure that is unusual in a movie budget.  A class act, Dark Knight.

Christopher Nolan and the film crew of Warner Bros. wrapped up their summer filming of “The Dark Knight: Rises” in Pittsburgh, P.A. That photo above is created by Warner Bros. for a Pittsburgh local newspaper.

The film crew will next head to Los Angeles and New York City to film the rest of the movie.

More on it, here.

Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” is currently filming now as well. Warner Bros. hard at work with both “Superman” and “Batman”. I’m looking forward to both of these films.

“The Dark Knight: Rises” is looking great so far though. Can’t wait to see more behind the scenes pics when they hit Los Angeles and New York.

More Road Closures Downtown As Work Continues On “The Dark Knight Rises” « CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — There’s still a few more days of filming for crews working on “The Dark Knight Rises” before things wrap up here in Pittsburgh and the move on to a different city.

The latest round of road closures for Friday, Aug. 19 include Exchange Way from 9th Street to 10th Street, as well as Garrison Place from Penn Avenue to Liberty Avenue.

There will also be intermittent closures throughout the day on Penn Avenue between 9th Street to 10th Street, and intermittent traffic control on Liberty Avenue at Garrison Place.

As usual, there will be sidewalk restrictions and some short delays for pedestrians.

The giant hole crews dug in the middle of Cherry Way in downtown Pittsburgh was put to use during filming on Thursday.

There was an explosion and seconds later the Tumbler was spotted falling into the crater. But that wasn’t the only action people saw.

Catwoman was seen racing down the street on the Batpod, as well as gunfire and snow, too.

“The Dark Knight Rises” Films On South Side, “Gunfire” advisories

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The “Dark Knight” has left downtown and headed south.

Not too far south, though, just to the South Side; but “Batman” isn’t finished with downtown just yet, and that means more detours and delays for drivers.

“The Dark Knight Rises” moved to a new location Wednesday, Bingham Street and McKean Street on the South Side.

What little action there was took place at the Frank and Bryan Cement Plant; of course, the new name in Gotham City is the Broucet Cement Company.

The scene included cars with Gotham City license plates moving in and around the plant.

Of course, with this going on, a section of both streets was closed to traffic.

According to the Port Authority, certain streets in downtown Pittsburgh will once again be closed to traffic, so expect detours and delays even if you are riding a bus.

“On Thursday, we will see some closures on 4th and Forbes, so some of the South Hills routes will be affected, like the 61 and 70 series buses,” said Pharo.

Meanwhile, remember that six foot deep hole that was dug on Cherry Way downtown. It measures 16 by 18 feet and Pittsburghers can expect a lot of noise there.

The next real excitement is scheduled to happen on Cherry Way tonight. There is supposed to be explosions and gunfire. Businesses have been told to shut off fire alarms so that all the action doesn’t set them off.

Crews Dig Hole In Downtown Street For ‘Batman’ « CBS Pittsburgh

With Catwoman tearing up the streets on the Batpod, Batman in the Batwing, possibly chasing down that fleet of camo-painted tumblers, what could be next?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Excitement is growing for the filming of a major scene in the new “Batman” movie.

A local construction company was asked to dig a large pothole on a downtown street for the movie.

Among the ordinary pot holes on Cherry Way is one much bigger. Will it soon play host to the “Bat Mobile?”

“This hole is approximately 16-[feet] by 18-[feet] and about six-feet deep,” Steve Zottola of Zottola Construction said.

Zottolla said work got under way on Aug. 6 to dig the hole. He was given little information on what it would be used for during the filming of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
