Operation Early Bird = Early Viewing

Those where were indeed “early birds” saw a countdown clock at and seem to have fared a bit better getting forwarded to the actual event once the countdown reached zero.  Many on twitter were saying the servers had crashed or reporting an empty screen while others shared screen captures like this:

Those approaching with a hardcore alternate reality game mentality missed out though, scanning the CIA memos for codes and clues to coordinates about the missing scientist, a la the puzzzles solved in the Dark Knight viral 3 years ago.  All players were expected to do was zoom in on their own area and they would see an invitation/link to the nearest IMAX theater for an advanced screening of the TDKR prologue, a full three days before its official release on IMAX prints of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

The Prologue to TDKR is expected to be the first six minutes of the movie, a la Joker’s robbery of Gotham National Bank in The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Rises is Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman trilogy, starring Christian Bale (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and other Nolan alums Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard, to be released by Warner Bros. July 2012
