Happy Birthday Tim Burton! The eerie director was born Timothy Walter Burton in Burbank, California on August 25th 1958. Burton’s films are well known for their endearing quirk and horrific imagery. His most well received films are Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Batman, Batman Returns, Planet of the Apes, and Alice in Wonderland.

Burton, a fan of the stop motion animation technique, starting making films as early as 13 years old. He went on to study character animation at the California Institute of the Arts and after graduating, secured a job at Walt Disney Animation Studios after his short film Stalk of the Celery Monster caught their attention. He worked as an animator, storyboard artist and conceptual artist in films such as The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron and Tron.

Disney and Burton eventually parted ways due to creative differences and by the mid 80s had prepared his first project, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. Since then, Burton has constructed a brilliant body of work causing him to be justly heralded as our generation’s Vincent Price. He will 53 years old.
