How Michael Keaton knew it was time to get out of the Batman movies

The flaws in a Batman who is unrelentingly dark and is damaged instead of heroic have become clear in the years since Tim Burton made Batman, but there is no question that Joel Shumacher’s shlockfest was not the remedy.  DC Comics writers should take note: The only winner was Michael Keaton, who had the good sense to leave rather than be a part of something that truly degraded the character.
