There are two new trios of posters for The Dark Knight Rises, one for the U.S. market and one for International release.  Those distinctions may have met something before the internet, but today, we all enjoy both.  Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane in a starker costume than the open tan trench we have seen, and Anne Hathaway in the regrettable goggles but with enough detail now showing in the texture of her costume that we see its similarity to Batman’s.  Hmmm.

Maybe to make it up to her, there is one additional poster featuring Catwoman, from the knee down.  Reowl.

The Dark Knight Rises unveils first TV Spots

The first TV spots for have debuted for The Dark Knight Rises Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman trilogy, starring Christian Bale (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and other Nolan alums Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard, to be released by Warner Bros. July 2012

In this, the second official TV Spot, we get a better look at the flying tumbler and Anne Hathaway in full Catwoman gear, but even naughtier and more splendid as Selina Kyle. Eight years after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes, a new terrorist leader, Bane overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that brands him an enemy.

Top Posts of the Week – Batman and Catwoman still dominate the Top 10

The real life Batman pulled over in his Lamborghini certainly got everyone’s attention, as did a new round of photos released from The Dark  Knight Rises.  But overall, Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway, Batman and Catwoman, Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle are still the overwhelmingly popular keywords.  Bane and Tom Hardy made a showing, although interest seems to wane after the push of a photo is over.  A pity Arkham City didn’t understand that also rans like Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman never make it into the top 50.

Interview: TDKR’s Gary Oldman

ArcLight sat down with TDKR’s Gary Oldman to talk about his Oscar-nominated performance in the remake of 1974 British spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, where he appeared with Dark Knight Rises co-star Tom Hardy and an all-star cast.  As the first novel of John le Carre’s “Karla Trilogy,” this new film installment that may spawn a new franchise.

Top Posts of the Week: Bat and Cat edge out Bane again

It could be the first big Comic Cons of the year pushing up the searches in Cosplay, but it seems like even before that, Batman and Catwoman, Bruce and Selina, Bale and Hathaway were slowly edging Tom Hardy and Bane out of the top spots.  When we began these surveys, Bane always dominated the top spots.  Now he is consistently 3 or 4, with fewer appearances than Bat and Cat.

Batman Humor: Nope, not one word

When we started this blog to sift through all the Batman material trending on the Internet, it never really dawned on us that we’d need to make a special category for Batman humor. It seemed like the kind of thing that would pop up right after Arkham City came out, right around the time of The Dark Knight Rises trailer release, and then once the film opened. Little did we know. It’s April, been 4 months since the trailer came out and it’s still 3 months until opening weekend. And yet…

Yesterday, Today and probably through to July, it’s Batman, Catwoman and Bane – Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy – in the #1, 2 and 3 spots.  The only question for a month has been which particular story or picture will light up the net this week.  Not surprisingly, it’s Mr. Bale looking oh so suave in character as Bruce Wayne, and Ms Hathaway out of character in a see-through blouse.  Mr. Hardy is more popular on set, in the photos from last summer’s location shooting in Pittsburgh, than in any of the officially released studio stills.

TDKR’s Tom Hardy in This Means War

Did anybody know Tom Hardy had another movie coming out?   Compared to his last release  The Warrior, not to mention his Dark Knight Rises costars Anne Hathaway in One Day, Marion Cotillard in Contagion and Gary Oldman in Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows, Part II and  Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Hardy’s newest called This Means War from 20th Century Fox is basically in stealth release.

The low profile is  perhaps  understandable, as the survey of reviews from metacritic are pretty dismal:

Nearly totally laugh-, chemistry- and coherence-free, this fiasco from the director of “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” has a script whose sensible parts would fit on a napkin with enough room left over for the Gettysburg Address.

Fine, call us sexists.  We at the Gotham Trending office try to remain impartial but we are men, and seeing Catwoman, Anne Hathaway and Selina Kyle beating Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale and Batman week after week for the top spot in his own movie, we can’t help it.  We can’t help but root for the underdog and we can’t help but cheer now that Bruce/Christian/Dark Knight has finally won the day.

I Remember Harvey Dent #TDKR

Bane (Tom Hardy) exhorts Gotham City to Remember Harvey Dent

We don’t know what Bane is saying holding up that picture, but we suspect he wouldn’t like the message on the FriendsOfHarveyDent.org website, formerly the “fundraising arm of the Harvey Dent campaign for District Attorney” repurposed as a memorial and launched today, February 2nd (2/2, wouldn’t Two-Face have loved it.)

“The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming.”  ”Harvey reminded us that WE are the answer.” “Gotham is a city of Hope and Heroes.”

Harvey Dent exhorted the people of Gotham not to give in to fear, not to give in to terrorism.  Bane, we’re a humble group of bat-bloggers, but it really doesn’t seem to us that it’s the best line to take for a guy standing on a camo-tank-car surrounded by a half-dozen thugs with machine guns.

Last week saw a few new stills from The Dark Knight Rises, touted as “the first view of the Batcave.”  It isn’t exactly.  But it’s Christian Bale in front of the Bat Suit in its case and Gary Oldman in front of a brown stoneish wall.  Tom Hardy again.  We think Bane is a promising villain but we can’t really see the fascination with another close up.  Or another long shot for that matter.  We get it.  He’s… Bane.
