After Dark Knight Rises: Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Make Feature Directorial Debut
It’s always interesting to see what actors do after starring in a record-breaking blockbuster. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to the experience, after his role in director Christopher Nolan’s last tour de force Inception. So what’s he planning after The Dark Knight Rises? According to Deadline, he’ll be taking a turn at directing himself, and has already cast Scarlett Johansson as his costar.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will make his feature directing debut on an untitled comedy he’ll star in with Scarlett Johansson. Gordon-Levitt wrote the script, and Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures will finance the film and sell international rights in Berlin. Ram Bergman is producing for Ram Bergman Productions in association with Gordon-Levitt’s hit Record Films. Shooting will start April 16.
While Gordon-Levitt would not give up too many details, I got this much: the film is a sexy comedy about about a modern-day Don Juan, and his quest to become less of a “selfish dick.” He plays that character, and there is another female lead role that will be filled shortly.
The move into the directing chair comes at a time when Gordon-Levitt is coming off the lead role as a cancer-stricken man in 50/50, and when he has a killer dance card for 2012. He stars in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Looper and Lincoln, all opening this year.
Getting behind the camera on a feature is hardly a lark. Gordon-Levitt, a child actor whose credits included 3rd Rock From The Sun, became burnt out in his teens and left the business to attend Columbia University and experience life. Lucky for him, when he came back he’d grown into a cross between Heath Ledger and Keanu Reeves, and has turned in strong adult performances in films including The Lookout, (500) Days Of Summer, and Inception. Despite his success, Gordon-Levitt tells me that all along, his major motive for returning was a burning desire to direct.
New Dark Knight Rises Toys revealed and ready for preorder from Mattel, it’s John Blake and Alfred Figures
We at Gotham Trending are old enough to remember Robert Wuhl on a talk show promoting the Tim Burton Batman in 1989. Talking about his cut of the merchandise, any action figures that depicted the image of his character Alexander Knox he said “Oh yeah, I’m sure every kid is going to want The Reporter Doll.” Times may have changed. IGN is reporting the newest action figures announced by Mattel and available for pre-order.
Mattel has just revealed two more The Dark Knight Rises action figures from their Movie Masters toy line. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Gotham City cop John Blake and Michael Caine’s Alfred Pennyworth will be joining the company’s Batman, Bane and Catwoman figures.

The moment we’ve all anticipated since the revelation of the full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has arrived: showtimes and availability. Fandango has already starting pre-sales for the 2012 summer blockbuster for both regular and IMAX screenings. In New York, tickets for TDKR midnight opening (Thursday 19) are available at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 theater. San Francisco crowds might want to look up showtimes for the Metreon 16, Los Angeles moviegoers should look into the AMC CityWalk.
Yea, only three theaters at the moment have been disclosed, but keep tabs on Fandango within the next couple of weeks. Either way, if you’re up to skipping work the following day, jump at the opportunity to snag tickets for the midnight showing ASAP!
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Every hero has a journey. Every journey has an end. Christopher Nolan returns to complete the epic Gotham trilogy that launched with Batman Begins and reached the stratosphere with the billion-dollar blockbuster The Dark Knight.
Batman is now hunted by the law led by his friend Commisioner Gordon for taking the blame of Harvey Dent’s murders and protecting his reputation. He must quickly deal with the arrival of new villain Bane who is bent on the destruction and chaos of Gotham City, face old wounds and get a handle on the enigmatic Selina Kyle before his city is lost for good.
Oscar Winner Christian Bale reprises his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman for the third time along with stars Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commisioner Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. Inception stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt join the cast as WayneEnterprise board member Miranda Tate and Gotham Cop John Blake. Rounding out the cast are Anne Hathaway as the sleek Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as the powerful villain Bane.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Syncopy Production, a Christopher Nolan film, “The Dark Knight Rises.” Nolan directed the film from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan are the producers, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers. “The Dark Knight Rises” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.
Top Fan-Made TDKR Posters | Evolve
Everyone has been excited about The Dark Knight Rises since the pre-production buzz started last January. Soon after the announcement of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, the first fan poster appeared, and it was an absolute stunner, evoking all the sex appeal we’ve come to expect in Batman’s Feline Foe. Now that we have Tom Hardy, Bane, two official posters and trailers, and a plethora of set photos, the fan landscape has exploded. Evolve has selected its top picks for fan-made greats

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer featured on Best Movie Trailers of 2011 Lists
It’s no real surprise that The Dark Knight Rises trailer has appeared on virtually every Best of 2011 list, like the following from Film School Rejects. The combination of a late December release making it fresh in everyone’s mind, the salve it provided to the never-admitted disappointment of the Bane-centric prologue, the built-in hype which goes with being Christopher Nolan’s Batman, and the thrill of finally seeing not grainy photos and distant video but full images in the way they were meant to be seen, made it’s appearance a sure thing.

In IMAX, this trailer gave me chills. The first teaser did nothing for me, but this got my (along with everyone else around me) excitement level blasting during MI:4. The Dark Knight Rises trailer left my audience in silence. With the exploding football field and the cheesy action movie 101 line that is, “A storm’s coming,” this looks like Nolan going all cartoonishly and overly-seriously out, as portrayed by a suitably brooding and bombastic trailer. This is intended to be an epic conclusion, and epic is certainly an adjective one should use to describe this trailer. And, even with a brief glimpse and smile, Marion Cotillard stills wields the unholy power to make a jaw drop.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer shatters records with 12.5 million first day downloads #itunes #TDKR

Excited about The Dark Knight Rises trailer? You’re not alone.
A press release from Warner Bros. declares that the new trailer was viewed more than 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours, shattering the record for most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Now “Shattering records” is a common term for this sort of thing, but Warner Bros is specific:
“breaking the previous record by well over two million”
The fire is rising indeed.
Savvy watchers are giving a lot of the credit to the “Big 3″ approach. The appeal of this movie is Batman, Catwoman and Bane. The Bane-heavy prologue was thrilling, but there was no taste of Batman, only a fleeting shot of Bale in the batsuit and a similar shot of Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle and Catwoman in costume.
The Official Trailer remedied that, putting the emphasis where it belongs, on the Big 3.

The Epic Conclusion to The Dark Knight Saga
Script pages from The Dark Knight Rises “leaked” (Not exactly, but they’re letting us know what Bane was saying)
There was a dirty little secret about the Operation Early Bird that gave lucky viral participants the chance to see the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises days before the rest of the world. We were all honor bound to love it but, well, the truth is, we couldn’t understand a word Bane was saying. Warner Bros. noticed and we hope that means the problem will be fixed in the rest of the film.
In the mean time, the script has been released leaked so fans can go on being excited without risking embarrassing questions.
Now look, if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and DON’T READ IT. WATCH – not some leaked copy online when it comes out but on the BIG SCREEN. But if you have seen it, and you want to know what Bane is saying, read on…

Dark Knight Rises Set Photos: More pics from TDKR location shooting in NYC, LA and Pittsburgh
Everyone who is anyone knows Gotham City is New York, but creating the imagery for The Batman’s City is too big a job for one city to handle. Christopher Nolan primarily used Chicago for the first two films, but for The Dark Knight Rises has used parts of London, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and of course Manhattan.
Below find assorted pictures from the multi-city location shooting to supplement those archived elsewhere throughout this blog.

Wayne Enterprises on Fifth Avenue
(AP) – The entrance to Trump Tower, renamed Wayne Enterprises, is shown on Fifth Avenue, Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 in New York. The building, or at least this one entrance, will stand in for part of the new Wayne Enterprises HQ in The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment in his Batman trilogy, starring Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.
Many cities, including London, Pittsburgh, and parts of Los Angeles have stood in for sections of Gotham in this installment, while previous Nolan films have relied mostly on locations in Chicago. Since Gotham is New York City, it is fitting that at least some location shooting was finally done here.
Top posts of the week
A picture is worth a thousand words, and this week the pictures have taken center stage, particularly those of Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne, Batman) and Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle, Catwoman), on set, off set, in costume, in civvies. and in Anne’s case standing up for the 99% at an Occupy Wallstreet protest. Neither of their top picture is new and the one of Hathaway has been a fixture on the top ten list for obvious reasons. Why both are topping the charts this week, we can’t guess. It is the best picture of Bale as Bruce Wayne we’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s the best picture of anybody as Bruce Wayne.

Top Posts of the Week: Arkham City’s 15 minutes are up. TDKR back on top. Interest keen in Batman-Bane fight and all Dark Knight location shooting.
Looks like Arkham City’s 15 minutes are up. The week was full of interest in The Dark Knight Rises filming, particularly the Batman/Bane fight, and the unflagging interest in anything involving Anne Hathaway, Catwoman and the word ‘sexy.’ Old pictures from the location shooting in Pittsburgh months ago are getting more requests than anything pertaining to the game released only last week. It is quite an anti-climax after their months of relentless hype.
