More Road Closures Downtown As Work Continues On “The Dark Knight Rises” « CBS Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — There’s still a few more days of filming for crews working on “The Dark Knight Rises” before things wrap up here in Pittsburgh and the move on to a different city.
The latest round of road closures for Friday, Aug. 19 include Exchange Way from 9th Street to 10th Street, as well as Garrison Place from Penn Avenue to Liberty Avenue.
There will also be intermittent closures throughout the day on Penn Avenue between 9th Street to 10th Street, and intermittent traffic control on Liberty Avenue at Garrison Place.
As usual, there will be sidewalk restrictions and some short delays for pedestrians.
The giant hole crews dug in the middle of Cherry Way in downtown Pittsburgh was put to use during filming on Thursday.
There was an explosion and seconds later the Tumbler was spotted falling into the crater. But that wasn’t the only action people saw.
Catwoman was seen racing down the street on the Batpod, as well as gunfire and snow, too.

Remember that story about Anne Hathaway getting carried away during a fight scene and giving a stuntman a black eye? Remember how Gotham Trending suspected it was a staged event to draw attention from a leaked photo of the Catwoman costume? This one we believe, because the First Look at Hathaway is out and there is nothing to draw attention from but the opening of her new film One Day.
Maybe Catwoman just doesn’t like stuntmen?
The budget for “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises” might have just jumped up another six figures — because last Friday, Catwoman’s stunt double BARRELED through a super-expensive IMAX camera … and TMZ has the crushing footage.
It’s unclear who messed up — the stunt-double or the cameraman — but either way, the camera appeared to be blown to smithereens.
It was all shot outside some building at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh — which, we’re told, is supposed to be Gotham City Hall in the movie.
Thankfully, no one was hurt — and with a budget of $250 MILLION … a broken camera’s just a drop in the bucket.
Sources close to production tell us both the camera and the cameraman were not injured during the incident — but if you look closely, you can SEE camera shrapnel … and fixing those things ain’t cheap!

Rocksteady Games continued their cries for attention or puzzlingly inept promotional efforts with “killer new portraits” of Two-Face, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman from their upcoming release Arkham City coming out October 18th. They did this the day the Internet saw it’s first look at Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, then saw her filming breathtaking action shots in Pittsburgh. The net did what the net does… each blogger and tweeter adding their own spin, some with marvelously humorous results
And in the midst of that, “portraits” from Rocksteady.
